Idaho Student Health Insurance

Are you in good health and looking for an alternative to the higher-priced health insurance options of your Idaho university?  We have assembled the requirements of the major universities in Idaho to help you find a less expensive alternative that offers good benefits and allows you to waive the university health insurance coverage.

BYU Idaho
  • Full Time Students cannot waive off school insurance plan unless they are covered under their parent's or employer's policy.  Health insurance is a required.
     
  • Spouses of BYU Idaho students are charged a large premium to be added to the school insurance; spouses can find much better rates if they are in good health and apply with us
     
  • We suggest looking at the Blue Cross Essential Blue Plus, the Regence Evolve Core, or the Pacific Source Smart Health PPO Plans for spouses in good health.  Please visit our Individual Health Insurance page to apply for quotes or click on the respective company links
     
  • The BYU-Idaho maternity deductible is $4750 plus there is a $300 copay.  BYU-Idaho students should consider the maternity insurance plans we offer to fill the gap in coverage

Idaho State University
  •  Health insurance is required for full-time ISU students (12 credits)
  • Idaho State students are able to waive off the school health insurance plan provided the insurance meets the following requirements:
  1. Medical benefits of at least $50,000 per accident or illness (to include maternity coverage for policy holders);
  2. A deductible  not to exceed $2,000.00 per accident or illness;
  3. Co-payment for in-network providers not greater than 25 percent with the insurance paying at least 75 percent of the charges;
  4. Insurance company that is owned, operated and based in the United States in compliance with applicable federal laws
  5. Health insurance in-force and maintained for the full academic year

University of Idaho
  •  University of Idaho students are required to carry health insurance but may waive off with qualifying coverage
  • The following 2 requirements must be met to waive off the U of I school health insurance plan:
  1. A lifetime maximum benefit of $500,000 and covers either illness or injury
  2. Covers injury while participating in intramural, club, or NCAA intercollegiate sports programs (If the student will be participating in such programs)
  • Visit our Individual Health Insurance page to apply for a plan from Blue Cross, Regence, or Pacific Source that will meet these guidelines.  All Blue Cross policies carry $1 million of lifetime coverage and the other 2 companies carry $2 million

Waiver Information
Boise State
  • Health insurance required for full-time Boise State students but waiving off is allowed if the health insurance policy meets the following requirements:
  1. Alternate insurance plan must be with a United States based company
  2. The coverage cannot be voluntarily canceled and enrollment must be continuous through the current academic year
  3. The maximum policy limit can be no less than $75,000
